The fellowship provides multiple opportunities at the University of Chicago, with a focus on sports medicine in the pediatric and college-aged athlete. Experiences include:
- Longitudinal rotation at Comer Children's Hospital with Dr. Holly Benjamin evaluating pediatric patients with sports-related problems, including management of orthopedic injuries such as fractures, cartilage and growth plate problems, sprains, strains, tendonitis, concussions and return-to-play issues, exercise-induced asthma, women in sports, nutrition and sports supplements. Special emphasis is on children and adolescents.
- Longitudinal rotation at the University of Chicago athletic training room under Dr. Bruce Reider evaluating Division 3 college athletes with sports related injuries. Includes coverage of University of Chicago athletic events and working with athletic trainers.
- Rotation at Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine with PCSM Sports Medicine Physicians evaluating musculoskeletal patients with a focus on diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasonography.
- Rotation at Comer Children's Hospital's fracture clinic evaluating and managing various pediatric fractures including casting and splinting techniques.
- Rotation within University of Chicago Student Health Center seeing both sports medicine and general medical issues of student population.
