Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG)

Established in 1995 by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Family Medicine Interest Group, like many specialty interest groups, is a medical student-run group that focuses on increasing awareness about Family Medicine, cultivating leadership potential, connecting students with practicing family physicians and advocating at our state's capital for patient and community rights.

American Academy of Family Physicians
The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is the American national association of family doctors. The Academy was founded in 1947 to promote and maintain high quality standards for family doctors. The AAFP offers free student membership to all US medical students at accredited medical schools. Illinois Academy of Family Physicians, student section
The Illinois Academy of family Physicians (IAFP) is the Illinois state constituent chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The student website has information about local family medicine student activities and news.

Illinois Student/Resident Experiences and Rotations in Community Health (SEARCH)
The Illinois Student/Resident Experiences and Rotations in Community Health (SEARCH) program, funded by the National Health Service Corps (NHSC), offers clinical rotations to qualified medical students at community health centers (CHCs) located in urban/rural areas of Illinois. Students gain valuable, hands-on clinical and community health experiences by working on multidisciplinary teams providing care in medically underserved areas in Illinois. Wonca - World Organization of Family Doctors
Wonca is an acronym comprising the first five initials of the World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians. Wonca encourages and supports the development of academic organizations of general practitioners/family physicians, provides a forum for exchange of knowledge and information between member organizations of general practitioners/family physicians, and represents the educational, research and service provision activities of general practitioners/family physicians before other world organizations and forums concerned with health and medical care. You can also sign up for Journal Alerts,a free email service that summarizes important recent important journal publications relevant to Family Medicine.

National Health Service Corps Program
The National Health Service Corps (NHSC), through scholarship and loan repayment programs, helps Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) in the U.S. get the medical, dental, and mental health providers they need to meet their tremendous need for health care. Since 1972, more than 30,000 clinicians have served in the Corps, expanding access to health care services and improving the health of people who live in urban and rural areas where health care is scarce.

Indian Health Service
The mission of the Indian Health Service is to raise the physical, mental, social and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level. The Indian Health Service is part of the US Department of Health and Human Services, and serves nearly two million American Indians and Alaska Natives through a network of 49 state-of-the-art hospitals and more than 230 clinics throughout 35 states.

The Robert Graham Center for Policy Studies in Family Medicine and Primary Care
The Robert Graham Center was created to improve individual and population health by enhancing the delivery of primary care. The Center aims to achieve this mission through the generation or synthesis of evidence that brings a family medicine and primary care perspective to health policy deliberations from the local to international levels.
